Highlights of Oregon Road Trip 2009

On this trip, I cached in Kansas for the first time, netting 25 caches including Mingo by The Kansas Stasher (GC30). - the oldest active geocache.

I found a total of 140 caches, including 3 earthcaches.

I added Oregon to my list of states with more than 200 finds. This brings my total of 200+ finds states to four.

One of my geocaching goals is to create a round-trip trail of finds in contiguous counties between Memphis, TN and my hometown of La Grande, OR. I don't really try that hard to pick up missing counties, but I did - this time- make a point to get missing counties in Idaho and Nebraska. I noticed after my trip that I almost completed Kansas and Colorado as well. My zigzag path across Missouri has a lot of gaps, but I only have two counties missing between St. Louis and Memphis. I had problems with my Missouri pocket queries, so I ended up with no finds between Lincoln, NE and St. Louis, MO.

I found it more difficult generating my PQs for the trip, partly because I waited until the last minute to do them and partly because there are lots more caches along the interstate routes than just two years ago. Taking a laptop would have helped me get around the waypoint limit on my GPSr, but given that I am relatively constrained by travel time (max 4 days each way), I need to spend much more time researching good caches to hunt.
