U of M Vegetable Gardens?

This turned out to be a perfect day for caching, if you like it warm. I couldn't take a trip today because I had errands to run, but I could pick up few caches on the way. My main goal for the morning was to run my car through inspection. Fun. On my way to the inspection station, my first stop was the University of Memphis to pick up Graduation by Jamie Z (GC1R3VE). I parked in the north lot and walked about 500 feet to the location of the cache. It blended in really well to its hiding spot and I ended up having to think "three-dimensionally" to find it. After extracting the ammo can (Yes an urban ammo can!), a university golf-cart pulled up and parked nearby. I thought it might be campus security and I calmly went about my business as the man walked past me to head into one of the nearby buildings.

After replacing the cache, I decided that since I was already here I would check out the newly planted University vegetable gardens near the Field House. When I got to the location, I ran into two of the organizers of the project. I talked to one (Randy), while the other (his wife, Karyl) watered the gardens.

I was (and still am) skeptical of their project, which allows students, faculty, and staff to pick and eat the vegetables (as well as help out with the gardens). Even though the Field House gardens are located next door to Police Services, I predict that the gardens will soon be vandalized by the neighborHOOD residents. The gardens looked really nice, though.

After touring the gardens, it was back to the road for me. I picked up Rescue Me! by resq1ff (GC1BRM1) and Bald Cypress by Chance Encounter (GCW0JA) before heading over to the auto inspection station. Only a 1 hour wait in line...

Geowoodstock VIII

After being only mildly disappointed in not going to Geowoodstock VII, I was pleased to see that the time and location of Geowoodstock VIII has been announced. It just so happens that not only will I be in the vicinity of the event on the specified date, I know people who live nearby!

Suck it, GOWT!

Caching on Mother's Day 2009

Since I live too far away to visit my Mom on this day, I went to spend the afternoon with my brother and his family. I wanted to hunt a few caches on the way, but didn't want to get muddy so I picked up 6 easy ones.

The first two were quick park and grabs: Hot or Mild? by Pixiemama (GC1EM75) and AKA Fred Meyers by FrozenTundraMonkeys (GCW3Y8). The latter of those two was in serious need of repair. Next, I hit Lucky by cgeek (GCY09G), a simple roadside cache in an empty area.

I drove a bit further north and found Famil(y) Park Again!!!! by masmason12 (GC1CVMD) near Lakeland City Hall before heading west for my final two caches of the day.

The first (or 5th) was located in Blue Lagoon Park in north Bartlett. This park is in a developing area and has a lake with a walking trail as well as some soccer fields to the north. To get the cache - Young Brooke Shields in the ___ ___ Movie by RussHolland (GC1JNXY) involved a hike most of the way around the lake. There were muggles near the cache when I started my walk, but they headed off before I got to my destination. The cache area was a little swampy and the coordinates seemed a bit off, but I made the find.

After the hike back to the car, I drove to the opposite end of the street (Blue Lagoon Drive) and found my last cache: m L g w by RussHolland (GC1JVK0) on the perimeter of a MLGW substation.

By this time I was out of caches and it was starting to sprinkle a little bit so I headed off to my brother's house where we had lasagna for dinner.
