This turned out to be a perfect day for caching, if you like it warm. I couldn't take a trip today because I had errands to run, but I could pick up few caches on the way. My main goal for the morning was to run my car through inspection. Fun. On my way to the inspection station, my first stop was the University of Memphis to pick up Graduation by Jamie Z (GC1R3VE). I parked in the north lot and walked about 500 feet to the location of the cache. It blended in really well to its hiding spot and I ended up having to think "three-dimensionally" to find it. After extracting the ammo can (Yes an urban ammo can!), a university golf-cart pulled up and parked nearby. I thought it might be campus security and I calmly went about my business as the man walked past me to head into one of the nearby buildings.
After replacing the cache, I decided that since I was already here I would check out the newly planted University vegetable gardens near the Field House. When I got to the location, I ran into two of the organizers of the project. I talked to one (Randy), while the other (his wife, Karyl) watered the gardens.
I was (and still am) skeptical of their project, which allows students, faculty, and staff to pick and eat the vegetables (as well as help out with the gardens). Even though the Field House gardens are located next door to Police Services, I predict that the gardens will soon be vandalized by the neighborHOOD residents. The gardens looked really nice, though.
After touring the gardens, it was back to the road for me. I picked up Rescue Me! by resq1ff (GC1BRM1) and Bald Cypress by Chance Encounter (GCW0JA) before heading over to the auto inspection station. Only a 1 hour wait in line...
